Goechala is one of the most iconic trekking routes in the Himalayas. Dominated by the magnificent Kanchenjunga, this trek offers a breathtaking journey through diverse landscapes, from lush tropical jungles to glaciers near 5,000 meters above sea level.
The trek culminates at the Goechala viewpoint, a spectacular spot at the heart of the Himalayas, right in front of Kanchenjunga. The itinerary below is flexible and can be adjusted based on individual needs and experience levels.
Important Notes:
- A moderate level of technical trekking experience is recommended. Prior high-altitude trekking experience is ideal.
- No technical climbing gear (crampons or ice axes) is required.
- You’ll reach a maximum altitude of 4,950m at Viewpoint 3.

Preparation Day in Yuksom
- Activities: Rest, preparation for the trek, and optional visits to Yuksom’s serene monasteries, lakes, or central bazaar.
- Purpose: Acclimatization and preparation.
DAY 1: Yuksom to Thsoka
- Altitude Gain: 1,720m (5,643 ft) to 2,957m (9,701 ft)
- Highlights:
- Entering Kanchenjunga National Park.
- Scenic waterfalls, rhododendron forests, Tibetan bridges, and wildlife sightings (wild horses and monkeys).
- Lunch stop at Sachen (optional overnight stop).
- Final stretch to Thsoka with stunning views of Mount Pandim.
DAY 2: Thsoka to Dzongri
- Altitude Gain: 2,957m (9,701 ft) to 3,970m (13,024 ft)
- Highlights:
- Ascending through enchanting rhododendron forests, particularly vivid during early May.
- Rest stop at Phedang, a serene clearing with fresh spring water nearby.
- Arrival at Dzongri with sweeping views of the Kanchenjunga range.
DAY 3: Dzongri Top and Rest Day Activities: Early morning climb to Dzongri Top (4,100m) for an unforgettable sunrise over Kanchenjunga and Singalila ranges. Day of relaxation and acclimatization.

DAY 4: Dzongri to Thansing
- Altitude Change: 3,970m (13,024 ft) to 3,946m (12,946 ft)
- Highlights:
- Gentle descent through forests rich in birdlife.
- Rest stop at Kokchurang, a stunning campsite near a glacial river.
- Final ascent to Thansing with panoramic views of Kanchenjunga and Pandim.
DAY 5: Thansing to Lamuney
- Altitude Gain: 3,946m (12,946 ft) to 4,189m (13,743 ft)
- Highlights:
- Short, easy trail to Lamuney.
- Optional visit to Samiti Lake, a mystical and serene spot just 45 minutes away.
DAY 6: Lamuney to Goechala Viewpoint and Back to Thansing
- Altitude: 4,189m (13,743 ft) to 4,602m (15,100 ft) and back to 3,704m (12,152 ft)
- Highlights:
- Pre-dawn trek to Goechala Viewpoint 1 for sunrise.
- Mesmerizing views of glaciers, lakes, and towering Himalayan peaks.
- Optional extension to Viewpoints 2 and 3 (up to 4,950m).
DAY 7: Thansing to Thsoka
- Altitude Change: 3,704m (12,152 ft) to 2,957m (9,701 ft)
- Highlights:
- Scenic and relatively easy trail through rhododendron forests.
- Long descent to Thsoka with familiar sights along the way.
DAY 8: Thsoka to Yuksom
- Altitude Change: 2,957m (9,701 ft) to 1,720m (5,643 ft)
- Highlights:
- Pure descent, approximately 6 hours.
- Opportunity to stop for a refreshing dip in natural pools near the National Park entrance.

After 8 incredible days, you return to Yuksom, where you can reconnect with civilization, enjoy WiFi, and relax over a warm cup of chai while sharing your trekking experiences.
